Obituary of Genevieve Ann Boyer

Mount Pleasant, Genevieve Ann "Gen" Stefl Boyer, age 94 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Thursday (1/27/2011) in the Amber House at Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Boyer was born July 5, 1916 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late Anton and Jennie Shebal Stefl. Genevieve was a longtime member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the former Hurst High School and the former Greensburg Business College. While attending college, she worked for the Saloom Department Store and the Boy Scouts of Greensburg. She had been employed by the Air Force, Navy, and the Veterans Administration. Genevieve then worked for and retired from the National Security Agency as an Administrative Assistant. She loved to travel, and as an Army wife lived in Germany for six years. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Far East as well as Alaska and Hawaii. Gen was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Garden Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, Scottdale Chapter #383, and the Mt. Pleasant Order of the Amaranth Court #46. She was a dedicated volunteer at Frick Hospital and for the Meals on Wheels program in Mount Pleasant. She was an avid reader and loved working on crafts and on her Cross Stitching projects. Gen is survived by her loving family, her children: Allen N. Boyer and his wife Dale of North Carolina, Dr. Jane McGuigan and her husband Jack of WV, Kim R. Boyer and his wife Connie of WA, and by her grandchildren: Richard Boyer and his wife Tammy, Elizabeth Boyer Slabaugh and her husband David, Loru Boyer Hawley and her husband Brian, John Boyer and his wife Latasha and Kevin Boyer. She is also survived by her Great Grandchildren; Rance and Chase Slabaugh, twins, Josuha and Hunter Hawley, and Sydney and Ethan Boyer. Gen is also survived by her sister Margaret Stefl Smith of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gen was preceded in death by her husband, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Allen N. Boyer, Sr. in 2002, and by her brothers and sister, Anton, Stanley, William and Richard Stefl and Eleanor Stefl Smith. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services for Genevieve will be held Friday, February 4 at 11:00 AM at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church, Bridgeport Street, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. James Fogg officiating. Private Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The Scottdale Eastern Star Chapter #383 will conduct memorial Services in the funeral home Thursday @7PM. The family suggests memorials be made to Bridgeport United Methodist Church, Bridgeport Street Mt. Pleasant, PA in memory of Genevieve Stefl Boyer.
