Bonnie Downs

Obituary of Bonnie B. (Coldsmith) Downs

Bonnie B. (Coldsmith) Downs, 75, of Scottdale, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, surrounded by loved ones, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville following a lengthy, but courageous battle with a number of health issues.

Bonnie was born March 2, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late John C. and Betty B. Coldsmith. A graduate of Ramsay High School, Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.

Until poor health prevented her from working, Bonnie was employed by Westmoreland Manor and in a number of sales-related positions throughout Westmoreland County. But her happiest moments in life came during time spent with family, particularly on holidays and summer vacations on her beloved Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Without question, Bonnie’s proudest days came while celebrating the life and successes of her son and daughter-in-law, Ric and Susan, of Fort Mill, S.C., and their daughter, Madison. Most recently, she beamed as she held Madison's daughter, Mila, in her arms not long after her birth in September 2017.

Through it all, Bonnie lived life on her own terms, showing spunk, determination and incredible courage in the face of many challenges. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many and her kind spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Those closest to her knew her profound and unwavering love for all creatures, particularly the many cats she adopted and nurtured over the years.

In addition to her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Bonnie  is survived by her brother, John Coldsmith and his wife, Dee of Oakdale, her nieces, Jen Russell and her husband Brett, Becky Crawford and her husband Ryan, her nephew, Chris Coldsmith and his wife Adrienne; and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death in 2017 by her sister, Betsy McFarland, with whom she made her home for many years; and her brother-in-law, Howell "Mac" McFarland in 2001.

Family and friends will be received Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.
