Obituary of Anthony J. Sansone
Anthony Joseph (Shoe) Sansone,Sr., age 77 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died unexpectedly, Friday (09/14/2018) at his home.
Mr. Sansone was born June 30, 1941 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Angeline Avampato Sansone. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. He was a 1959 graduate of Ramsay High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963 and spoke fondly of his time in the military and the opportunity it afforded him to travel the world. Shoe worked for the former Permali Corp. and then for the PA Turnpike Commission as a Toll Taker.
Shoe, as he was known by his friends and family, was a larger than life personality with a heart of gold. He loved to pull pranks on his friends, tell stories about the good old days, and gave everyone he met a unique nickname. Shoe rarely called anyone by their given name.
Watching football and cheering for the Green Bay Packers was one of his favorite past times. Super Bowl XLV, when the Packers defeated the Steelers, was his favorite game. He proudly paraded through town the next day wearing his cheese head. Shoe also enjoyed last minute family gatherings with his children and grandchildren. A Village 16 cut pizza, Dilly Bars, cookies, and ice cream were always on the menu when family gathered at Pappy Shoe’s house. He will forever be missed by his family and friends. No one will ever fill his shoes. We love you, Dad.
Shoe is survived by his loving family: his children; Angela Mia Fox and Ronald, Gina Marie Mussori and Joseph III, and Anthony J. Sansone, Jr. and Monica, his beloved grandchildren; Isabelle Louise Fields, Ayden Joseph Fox, Mario Joseph Mussori, Bonino Anthony Mussori, and Juliana Maly Sansone. He is also survived by his niece and nephew, Lisa DiNicola Boytim and Panfield DiNicola, IV and Nancy, and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Shoe was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise DiNicola Sansone in 1995.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 6 to 8 PM and Monday from 2 until 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 and the VFW Post 3368. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 3PM. To offer an online condolence, please visit our web site at: www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
