Obituary of Charles Smetak, Jr.
Charles Smetak Jr., age 91 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Monday, February 6, 2017 in the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mount Pleasant, PA.
Mr. Smetak was born January 31, 1926 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Charles and Kathryn Perbonish Smetak. He is a member of the partner parish of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Everson. Chuck was a graduate of the former Ramsay High School. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army, 97th Infantry Division during WWII, in both the European and Pacific Theatres. He had been employed for more than 30 years as a Machinist for D M E Co. of Youngwood. Chuck was a member of the American Legion Post 446, and the VFW Post 3368, both of Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and dancing with his late wife Marilyn.
He is survived by his loving family: his children; Amy Lea Smetak of Mt. Pleasant and Charles Smetak, III and his wife Lindsey of Fairfield, Twp., his grandchildren; Michael Smetak and his wife Lindsay, Nicholas Long, Rachel Smetak, Luke Smetak, and Molly Smetak, and by his beloved great granddaughter, Harper Marilyn Smetak. Chuck is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Smetak Marne of Mt. Pleasant, and by his brothers, Robert Smetak (Esther) of Scottdale, and Dean Smetak of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Miller Smetak in August of 2016, his brothers, John and William Ronald Smetak and by his sisters; Lillian Jean Smetak, Kathleen Lambert, and Molly Smetak.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko officiating.
Private Inurnment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 446 and the VFW Post 3368 at 12:45 PM Friday, prior to the funeral services.
