Obituary of Thelma (Rimlinger) Porterfield

Thelma (Rimlinger) Porterfield, age 86 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Sunday November 13, 2016 in the Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg, PA. Mrs. Porterfield was born August 28, 1930 in Mt. Pleasant. She is the daughter of the late Lawrence and Catherine Janek Rimlinger. Thelma was a member of St. Pius X Parish and its Christian Mothers. She graduated from Ramsay High School in 1948, and had been a member of her high school reunion planning committee for many years. Thelma worked for the J.C. Penney Co. in Mt. Pleasant for over 30 years. She loved her church family where she served as a member of the choir. Her most memorable moment with the choir was singing at Fr. Greg Premoshis' first mass. Thelma was also a member of the Ministry of Consolation, teller, Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council. She loved to help at the parish bingo and work with the kitchen crew. She also volunteered at many festivals and fundraisers. Thelma loved sports, especially, Mt. Pleasant Viking Football, where she had season tickets for many, many years, and her Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. Thelma loved spending time with her family, especially enjoying the large gatherings at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also hosted many pool parties for her children, grandchildren and other family members. She is survived by her children: Larry Porterfield (Sharon), Kittanning, Kenny Porterfield, Mt. Pleasant, Connie (Charley) Barnhart, Mt. Pleasant, Phil Porterfield (Rita), Smethport, Cathy VanHeest, Virginia Beach, Va., and Wendy (Gary) Winner, North Huntingdon; her grandchildren ;Jared (Jess) Porterfield, Matthew (Carla) Porterfield, Lauren (Paul) Swiatocha, Wesley (Amy) Barnhart and Mallory Barnhart, Morgan VanHeest and Jordyn VanHeest, and one baby on the way, and by her great-grandchildren, Chloe Barnhart and Emma Porterfield., and another one due soon. Thelma is also survived by her brother, Daniel (Anastasia) Rimlinger, her brothers-in-law, Ray (Sally), Leo (Ruby) and Dale (Judy) Porterfield and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Porterfield, Jr., her sisters, Geraldine Winslow, Cecelia Prinkey and Dolores Rimlinger, her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick Prinkey, and Bill Winslow, Vaun and Barb Porterfield, her sister-in-law, Shirley Porterfield and nieces Andrea Rimlinger and Gerry Lou Huot. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff at Westmoreland Manor, especially the 3-11 shift. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday from 2 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.A blessing service will be held Friday at 12-noon in the funeral home, followed by Thelma's Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Pius X R C Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko, and Rev. William Berkey, as concelebrants. Interment will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
