Obituary of Gertrude (Pochinski) Konowalski

Gertrude B. (Pochinski) Konowalski, age 97 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Sunday, September 18, 2016 in Excela Health- Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA. Mrs. Konowalski was born September 26, 1918 in Mutual, PA, the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Keto Pochinski. She was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, and the former Transfiguration Parish. Gertrude enjoyed cooking, baking, working around her home and going to bingo. She is survived by loving family: her son; Stanley J. Konowalski, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Greensburg, her grandchildren; Todd (Kelly) Carpenter, Mindy (Guy) Decker, and Chad Carpenter, and by her great grandchildren; Cameron and Dawson Carpenter, and Jack, Grace, Sam and Charlie Decker. In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley J. Konowalski in 1996, her brothers; Joseph, infants Edward and Girard Pochinski and by her sisters; Edith Vargo, Helen Govern, Emily Pruss and Rita Zayance. Gertrude was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home, followed by Gertrude's Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Jose Ricky F. Cortez as celebrant. Interment will be in the Transfiguration Parish Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held Tuesday at 3PM in the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the Staff of Ridgeview Residential Care and the nurses and staff of Excela-Westmoreland 3rd floor for their kindness and exceptional care during Mrs. Konowalski's illness.
