Obituary of Leonard John Jurkowski

Mount Pleasant, Leonard John "Herman" Jurkowski Sr., age 81 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Sunday May 29, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Jurkowski was born September 16, 1934 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late John and Sophie Oshinsky Jurkowski. He was a graduate of the former Ramsay High School. Herman was a proud Veteran who served in the United States Army during the Korean Era. Prior to his retirement Herman had been employed by the former Permali Corp. of Mt. Pleasant. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3368 and a member of the American Legion Post 446. Herman enjoyed going to the club, watching old John Wayne movies, boxing and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 43 years, Mary Lou Stoner Jurkowski, his children; Jennifer Jurkowski of Greensburg, Leonard John Jurkowski, Jr. and his wife Marcie of Martinsburg, WV, and Tammy Jo Jurkowski and her husband Dean of Centre Hall, PA, and by his beloved grandchildren; Jessica Ann Garbrick, Keeley Jurkowski, and Brandon and Aubrey Shea. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: John Jurkowski (Betty) of Michigan, William Jurkowski (Peggy) of North Royalton, OH, Florence Levendosky (William), and Patricia Czerniak, all of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his sister, Mathilda Czarniak in 2011. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 3 until 7 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant, followed immediately by his Funeral Service at 7 PM, with Pastor Frank Stoner officiating. Private Inurnment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA. Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday at 7PM by the American Legion Post 446 and the VFW Post 3368. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
