Obituary of Josephine Helen Wawrzyniak Garsteck

Mount Pleasant, Josephine Helen Wawrzyniak Garsteck, age 82 of Mount Pleasant, PA, formerly of Tarrs, died Wednesday (11/25/15) in RNC of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg, PA. Mrs. Garsteck was born August 12, 1933 in Tarrs, PA, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Skero Wawrzyniak. She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers, and the former Transfiguration Parish and it's Holy Rosary Society. Josephine was a graduate of the former East Huntingdon High School, class of 1951. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed helping to make noodles. She loved her garden and enjoyed canning vegetables and sharing them with her family and her friends. Josephine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; a kind and gentle lady who cherished her family and her friends. She is survived by her loving family: her children, Susan M. Geary and her husband Dr. Daniel Geary of Scottdale, Robert E. Garsteck, Jr. and his wife Kristine S. Garsteck of Mt. Pleasant, her beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Aaron Garsteck, and her granddog Nellie. Josephine is also survived by her brother, John Wawrzyniak and his wife Joan of Mt. Pleasant, her sister, Lottie Bukovac of Vanderbilt, and her sister in law, Helen Wawrzyniak of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous nieces nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Garsteck Sr, in 2003, by her brothers, Joseph and Walter Wawrzyniak, and by her sisters, Helen Wawrzyniak, Frances Kowalsky and Mary Smithula. Family and friends will be received Saturday from 6 to 8 PM and Sunday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mt. Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30AM in the Funeral Home, followed by Josephine's Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will be in the Transfiguration Parish Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of RNC and the Arnold Palmer Pavilion for their care, compassion and kindness for Josephine during her illness. On Sunday, a parish wake service will be held at 3PM and the Transfiguration Rosary Society will Pray the rosary at 6 PM in the funeral home.
