Obituary of Leo Anthony Fatla

Mount Pleasant, Leo Anthony "Duke" Fatla, age 90 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Tuesday (11/10/15) in the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mount Pleasant, PA, surrounded by his family. Mr. Fatla was born February 20, 1925 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late George and Cecelia (Gocek) Fatla. He was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church and a member of the former Transfiguration Parish. He graduated from the former Transfiguration Grade School, and attended Hurst High School. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II. Leo was the owner of Rainbow Gardens for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was also in charge of maintenance for the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home for over 10 years. A member of the VFW Post 3368, the American Legion Post 446, and the NRA, Leo was an avid hunter, sportsman and taxidermist. Leo is survived by his loving family: his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Donna M. Smithnosky Fatla, his daughters, Sheryl Lyn Fatla, of MA, and Sandra Lee King of Mt. Pleasant, his beloved grandchildren; Jessica King McMickle and her husband Mark, Heidi King Dembowski and her husband Jeff, and Ashley King Wolk and her husband Aaron, and his great grandchildren, Adeline Elise McMickle, Tyler David Dembowski and Carter Duke Dembowski. Leo is also survived by his sisters in law; Rita Smithnosky Tallerico and Kay Smithnosky Colello, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his close friend, Jim Buys of Arizona. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his bothers; Edward, George, Frank and Matthew Fatla, and his sister, Mary Fatla. As per the wishes of the family there will be no hours of public visitation. The family invites everyone to celebrate Leo's Funeral Mass on Friday 11/13/15 at 10:00 AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Love lasts forever. Entombment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association, in Memory of Leo "Duke" Fatla. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Harmon House and Grane Hospice for their care, compassion and kindness during Leo's illness.
