Obituary of Donald R. Pfeifer

Mount Pleasant, Donald R. Pfeifer, age 83 of Norvelt, PA, died peacefully Wednesday (9/2/15) at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Pfeifer was born October 27, 1931 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Charles and Dora Hawse Pfeifer. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of God, where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent. Don was a 1949 graduate of the former Ramsay High School. He proudly served with the 28th Infantry Division Company E of the United States Army as a First Lieutenant. He served two years active duty in the Korean War and a combined 32 years in the Army Reserves and National Guard. Don retired from the Maintenance Department at the Brown Boveri Co. in South Greensburg. He was also a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 133, where he was an Assistant Scoutmaster. As a merit badge counselor, he assisted many young men on their trail to becoming Eagle Scouts, including his sons and grandsons. Don was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He completed his Wood Badge in 1988, received the Braddock Trail District Award of Merit in 1989, and the prestigious Silver Beaver Award in 2000. Don was a member of the Mount Pleasant Township Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2013. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 446 and the Military Officers Association of America, General Greene Chapter. Don is survived by his loving family: his devoted wife, Nellie Lohr Pfeifer with whom he would have celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on October 17, 2015, his beloved children and their families: Kimberly S. Kelley and her husband Mark of Mt. Pleasant, David A. Pfeifer and his wife Jane of Johns Creek, GA, and Scott D. Pfeifer and his wife Krista of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by his grandchildren, the loves of his life, Christopher Kelley of Mt. Pleasant, Steven and Katie Pfeifer of Johns Creek, GA, and Caleb and Carlee Pfeifer of Mt. Pleasant. Family and friends will be received Friday from 6 to 8 PM and Saturday from 3 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Additional viewing will be held Sunday from 11 to 12:30PM, the time of his funeral service, in the funeral home, with the Reverend Douglas E. Show officiating. Interment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Kecksburg. Don's children would like to thank Mom from the bottom of their hearts for the awesome care that you gave Dad over the last 10 months during his illness.
