Obituary of William, III and Rachel Conn Hitchman

Hitchman, William, III and Rachel. William was born in 1908 in Mt. Pleasant, the only son of the late John Dickie Hitchman and Louise Scull Hitchman. He was educated at the Solebury School, and Franklin & Marshall College. Rachel was born in 1913 in Maumee, OH, the daughter of the Honorable Amos Conn and Grayce Bennis Conn. She was educated at the University of Toledo and Bowling Green College. They met in Toledo in 1939 when they were both working for the Shoreline Railroad. They were married in 1940. William was then transferred to Detroit, MI. The couple lived in Roayl Oak, MI, where they raised their family, their two daughters, Louise Grayce and Helen Scull. In 1991 they moved to Des Moines, Iowa to be near their grandson, a practicing M.D. William died shortly after their move but Rachel survived until April of this year. In addition to their daughters, they are survived by their six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Graveside Inurnment services will be held Saturday August 8, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the Hitchman family Lot, with the Rev. Charles P. Martin officiating.
