Obituary of George E. (Greenie) Niezgoda

Mount Pleasant, George E."Greenie" Niezgoda, age 83 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Thursday (03/5/15) in the Excela Heath- Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg, PA. Mr. Niezgoda was born March 3, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Andrew and Anna Velkey Niezgoda. He was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church and the former Transfiguration Parish, where he was a longtime Usher, and a current usher at the 8 AM Sunday Mass at St. Pius X. George attended the former Hurst High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force in Japan during the Korean War. George retired from General Motors Fisher Body Division, Pittsburgh Plant with over 40 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3368, the Polish Falcons and the Kosciuszko Club, and an active member of the Visitation Bowling League. Greenie enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, and supplying his family and friends with tomatoes, cucumbers and Kohlrabi. George was a kind and gentle man, who loved his family and was a friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 55 years, Barbara Chuey Niezgoda, his sons; Larry Niezgoda and his wife Linda, George Niezgoda and his wife Sandy, all of Mt. Pleasant, Tom Niezgoda and his wife Kris of Latrobe, and his daughter, Karen Busch and her husband Rich of North Huntingdon. He will be sadly missed by his beloved grandchildren; Aaron (Becky) Niezgoda, Ashleigh (Jason) Fordyce, Stacey (Ryan) Naggy, and George Niezgoda, and by his great grandchildren, A.J. Niezgoda and Gracie Fordyce. He is also survived by his brothers; Stanley Niezgoda of Ridgecrest, CA, Paul (Bonnie) Niezgoda of Lakewood, OH, and Frank (Gene) Niezgoda of Scotttdale, his brothers and sisters in law; Edward (Eleanor) Chuey, Eleanor (Thomas) Pike, Annetta (Jack) Beachly and Donna Rafter. In addition to his parents, Greenie was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Niezgoda, Jr.; his sisters, Catherine Balazek, and Pauline Shea and his sister in law,Theresa Niezgoda. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Transfiguration Parish Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Sunday at 3:30 PM and the Transfiguration Holy Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 6 PM.
