Obituary of Donald Franklin Mencer

Mount Pleasant, Donald Franklin Mencer, age 80 of Mt. Pleasant, PA died Friday (1/23/15) in the Scottdale Manor & Rehabilitation Center, Scottdale, PA. Mr. Mencer was born March 1, 1934 in South Huntingdon Township, PA, the son of the late Guy Poole Mencer Sr. and Ruth Marie Hout Mencer. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and the former Transfiguration Parish. Don was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army. He had been employed by the Westinghouse Corp in Derry until his retirement. Don is survived by his loving family: his children; Lori Kalinay and her husband Vaughn of Boiling Springs, PA, and Joe Nitkiewicz and his wife Vivian of Mt. Pleasant, and their mother, Betty Nitkiewicz Mencer of Mt. Pleasant, and by his grandchildren; Emily and Erica Kalinay, John Nitkiewicz, and Amy Magda and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Joanne Lockwood of Thompson, GA. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Guy Mencer, Jr on Jan. 19, 2015. As per the wishes of the family, there will be no hours of public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
