Obituary of Daniel John Barton
Mount Pleasant, Daniel John Barton, age 74 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Friday (1/9/15) at his home.
Mr. Barton was born May 23, 1940 in Monessen, the son of the late John and Anna Valka Barton. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant and its Adult Fellowship Group. Dan was a graduate of Monessen High School. He attended the College of William and Mary on a football scholarship and received his degree in 1962. Dan taught and coached for many years for the Mount Pleasant Area School District, and was a lifelong member of the American Football Coaches Association. He loved football, and also enjoyed kayaking, biking and fishing at High Point and Sudoku, but his most favorite times were those spent with his beloved grandsons.
Dan is survived by his loving family: his wife of 53 years, Nancy Ronick Barton, his sons, Daniel Barton, Jr. and his wife Sylvia of Mount Pleasant, and J.P. Barton of Fort Hill, PA, and by his grandsons, Daniel III, and Nathan. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Paul Barton and Kathy of Belle Vernon, David Barton and Kathy of Shaler, and Ellen Visca and Norman of Huntington Beach, CA. Dan's entire life was devoted to his family, all of whom will miss him greatly.
There will be no hours of public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mt. Pleasant, with his pastor, the Rev. Karen C. Thompson, officiating. Private Interment will be in St. John's Union Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 822 West Main Street, Mount Pleasant, PA 15666 in memory of Daniel J. Barton.
