Obituary of Mary J. Belzer Caruso

Norvelt, Mary J. Belzer Caruso, age 93 of Norvelt, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died peacefully Saturday (12/13/14) at her home. Mrs. Caruso was born March 25, 1921 in Tarrs, PA, the daughter of the late Louis and Liboria Rotella Belzer. She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, and the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society. Mary worked for her nephew, the late Leonard Santorella at the former Thrift Sales Co. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and many friends, and was proud to have made raviolis in her kitchen for many years for Kraisinger's Market. Mary also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family. Mary was a loving wife, and very devoted mother and grandmother. A friend to many, she will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mary is survived by her loving family: her children; Mary Jo Baker and her husband Randy of Norvelt, where she lived for over eleven years, Roxanne Scott and her husband Mike of Mt. Pleasant, and Donna Eckman and her husband Paul of Shohola, PA, and by her beloved grandchildren; Adam Baker, Brynn Matthews and Bill, Amanda Scott and Barry James, Megan Scott and fiancé Dan O'Neil, Rachael Cox and T.J., and Jarrod Eckman and Janet Vega. She will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren;Colton, McKenna, and Averie Cox, Adryan and Hayden Opitz, and an expected Matthews great grandchild in April 2015. Mary is also survived by her loving brother, Sam Belzer and his wife Connie of Dearborn, MI, her sister-in-law Virginia Belzer of Tarrs, and many, many nieces and nephews. Her loss will also be felt at the annual Caruso family reunion, where she presided as the Matriarch. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband ,Frank J. Caruso in 1974, her companion, Dom Amoroso in 2007, her two sisters, Angeline DePalma, and Virginia Belzer and her seven brothers; Jack, Joseph, Edward, Louis, Frank, James and Tom Belzer. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 AM followed by Mary's. Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Pius X RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 3 PM. A very special thanks for the love and caring for over a year, given by Medi-Home Hospice from her loving "angels", niece Jennifer Caruso, Cheryl Potoka, and Cindy Hayden. In lieu of flowers and to commemorate Mary's favorite season, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Operation Santa Claus or the Westmoreland County Food Bank in memory of Mary J. Caruso.
