Obituary of Porter G. Kerlin
Hunker, Porter G. Kerlin, age 63 of Hunker, PA, died Thursday (3/20/14) in the Oak Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Greensburg, PA.
Mr. Kerlin was born July 25, 1950, the son of the late Porter and Geraldine Espey Kerlin. He was a 1968 graduate of Mount Pleasant Area High School, and went to the state competition for track, breaking the record for the mile run. He proudly served in the the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic and door gunner, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star. Porter was a kind hearted man who loved singing and playing his guitar for his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family: his sisters and brother; Linda Kachmarek and her husband Edward, Bonnie Crossland and her husband Henry (Butch), all of Mt. Pleasant, David Kerlin of Greensburg, Sherry Elcock and her husband Dennis of Scottdale, his half sister, Joanne Souders of McConnellsburg, his brother-in-law, Mark Jacobs of Mt. Pleasant and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Porter was preceded in death by his sisters, Ginger Kerlin and Pamela Jacobs, his half sisters, Jean Souders and Betty Kerlin, and by his sister-in-law, Karen Kerlin.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 4 until 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services for Porter will be held on Monday at 11:30AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy Stradling officiating.
