Mount Pleasant, John J. Yanchus, age 91 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Tuesday (02/25/14) in Excela Health- Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, PA. Mr. Yanchus was born January 1, 1923 in Brownsville, PA, the son of the late Steven and Anne Yanchus Duskie. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. John was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. He had been employed for many years as a butcher and eventually became the proprietor of his own business in Wendel, PA. After he retired he spent many years as a skilled carpenter, as well as an "all around" handyman, who was not afraid to tackle any project. He was always happy to help people, literally "whistling while he worked." He was a wonderful cook and will be remembered by friends and family for his famous soups, which he always made and hand delivered to anyone who was recuperating from an illness, or just in need of some comfort food. His hobbies included fishing with his brothers and friends. He was the chief cook and prankster on all their expeditions. He enjoyed building birdhouses for friends and family. He loved animals especially his "granddog", Noodle, the labradoodle. Noodle and Pappy John could be seen all around town together. John was adored by his whole family. He spent many hours amusing them with his stories and jokes. He touched each person and filled their memories with love and laughter throughout their lives. John will always be remembered and greatly missed by the many whose lives he touched. John is survived by his loving family: his wife of 65 years, Dolly R. Coppula Yanchus , and his beloved daughter, Linda K. Macaluso of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Edward Duskie of Michigan, William Garcher of SC, Helen F. Skalecki and Dorothy D. Rowan, both of Morgantown, WV, and Anna Mae Martin of Richmond, WV, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandparents, with whom he resided as a child, Joseph and Mary Yanchus, and his brothers and sisters; George, Steve, Andrew, James and Eva Duskie.
