Obituary of Lawrence Luft

Mount Pleasant, Lawrence "Larry" Luft, age 87 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Wednesday (2/5/14) in the Excela Health- Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, PA, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Luft was born April 16, 1926 in Allison, PA, the son of the late William and Gladys Corella Luft. He was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army. Larry was a Coal Miner for more than 36 years with Delmont Fuel, and was a member of The United Mine workers of America, District 5, Local 8123. He was a longtime member of the Assunta Club, where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends, and was the owner of the former Oasis Restaurant in Prittstown.He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Larry was a loving father, companion and friend. He is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Cindy Luft Shaw and her husband Fran of Dickerson Run, his beloved companion, Dolores Mineo of Mt. Pleasant , his grandson, Michael Shaw and Kim, and Margo Hart, whom he raised and Dave, and her sons, Eric and Dakota. He is also survived by his brothers, James Luft and Dolores of Rillton, and Thomas Luft of Tampa, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, and by his best friend, Hermie Caruso. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Luft and his sister, Betty Luft DeRosa, both in 2011. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2 until 8PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Larry's funeral service will be held Monday at 1:00PM in the Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Tarrs.
