Obituary of Thomas A. Kaminsky

Mount Pleasant, Thomas A. Kaminsky, age 87 of Mount Pleasant PA, died Friday (07/02/10) in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg, PA. Mr. Kaminsky was born February 4, 1923 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late John and Julia Opiela Kaminsky. Tom was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and its Rosary Altar Society. He attended the former Hurst High School, and was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army. He worked for over 41 years for U.S. Steel, National Tube as a Millwright. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 3368, and a life member of the Hecla Sportsman's Club and the Shaft Club. As a young man, Tom was an excellent athlete, known for his pitching ability. He had played for the local baseball team, the "Kings". He had been drafted by The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies farm teams, but Tom chose to remain at U.S. Steel. Tom enjoyed fishing and tending to his flower gardens in later years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother; a very hard worker and an excellent provider for his family. He is survived by his loving family; his wife of 60 years, Kathryn "Katie" Turik Kaminsky, his daughter, Kathy Walters and her husband Larry of White and by his loving grandchildren; James Rankin, Christie Eckles Fraser and her husband Ted, Nicole Eckles Horak and her husband James, and by his great grandson,Liam Fraser. Tom is also survived by His sisters; Helen Kaminsky and Dorothy Taylor, both of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Urbanowski and her husband Richard of Austin, TX, and Julie King and her husband Raymond of Export and Margaret Gutierrez of NC. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Marlene Rankin in 2005, his brothers, Stanley and John Kaminsky and by his sister, Viola Kaminsky. Family and friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held on Tuesday at 9:30AM in the funeral home, followed by Tom's Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R C Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment with full military rites accorded by the V.F.W. Post 3368 and the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, PA.
