Obituary of Arthur N. Bando

Mount Pleasant, Arthur N."Archie" Bando, age 96 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Tuesday (11/5/13) at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Bando was born February 9, 1917 in in Acosta, PA, the son of the late Antonio and Jennie Gatto Bando. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church of Mt. Pleasant. Archie was a 1935 graduate of the former Ramsay High School. He was a proud, decorated veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army, Co. E., 110th Infantry. Archie worked for PPG Industries for over 23 years. After his retirement in 1979, Archie went to work with his son George, operating the lottery machine at Bando's Service in Youngwood unitl 2007 at the age of 90. With his quick wit and genuine smile, Archie made many friends who enjoyed visiting with him. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, going to the casinos, gardening and sharing his garlic with the neighborhood, and teaching them how to grow it. He was a member of the VFW Post 3368 in Mt. Pleasant. Although Archie had many friends and interests, his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Archie is survived by his loving and devoted family: his children; George Bando and his wife Catherine, Kathleen Onusko and her husband John C., and Debra Saxberg and her husband David, with whom he resided, his beloved grandchildren; David Bando (Lisa), Jeffrey Bando (Melissa), Aimee Bugosh (Chris) and his great grandchildren; Scott Bando IT2 (SW) United States Navy, Michael Bando, Giada Bando, Luca Bando, Rylin Bugosh, and Blasé Bugosh. Archie is also survived by his brother, Paul C. Bando of Mt. Pleasant and his brother and sister in law, William Falcon of Greensburg and Margaret Mellon of Hunker. In addition to his parents, Archie was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Milan (Mellon) Bando in 1985, and his brothers and sisters; Frank, William, George, and Samuel Bando, Mary Siegel, Grace Fordyce, Angeline Falcon and an Infant Sister. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 5 to 8PM and Friday from 2 to 8PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 11:30AM in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:00-noon in St. Pius X RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446, and the VFW Post 3368 will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Friday @3PM.
