Obituary of Ray Edward Landy

Mount Pleasant, Ray E. Landy Sr., age 89 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Friday (10/11/13) at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Landy was born October 27, 1923 in Bullskin Township, PA, the son of the late Frank and Alma Stout Landy. He was a longtime member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God. Ray was a proud veteran of WWII who served as a Ward Master in the United States Army, caring for the Battlefield wounded soldiers at Kennedy General Hospital in Memphis, TN. He also worked in the neurological unit making cranial impressions for soldiers with head injuries, and also escorted discharged patients back to their families. Ray retired with over 65 years of service as a Heavy Equipment Operator, with Local #66 operating engineers. Mr. Landy was a member of the American Legion Post #446 of Mt. Pleasant. He was a well known cook, and was famous for his desserts and pies. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially enjoying his hunting trips out West and spending time with his sons. Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be fondly remembered for his jokes, quick wit and storytelling. He is survived by his loving family: his beloved wife of 64 years, Jeane Kathryn Eberhart Landy, his children; Sharon Rae Lentz and her husband James of Vienna, WV, Sandra Kaye Medsger and her husband Phil of North Manchester, IN, Raymond Edward Landy, Jr. and his wife Diane of RuffsDale, and Robb Ward Landy and his wife Bonnie of Normalville. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren; Stacy, Heath, Clint, Shelly, Erin, Lauren, Matthew, Brina and Catrina, eleven Great Grandchildren and three Great Great Grandchildren. Ray is also survived by his brother, Robert Landy and his wife Norma Jean and his sister, Charlotte Kwak and her husband Raymond, all of Bullskin Township. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two infant children, his daughter, Ronda Echard, his brothers, John Eugene Landy and William Donald Landy, and his sister, Betty Landy Lewis. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 PM and Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral Services for Ray will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with Pastor Brad Adams officiating. Interment will be in the Greenlick Cemetery, Bullskin Township, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446.The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion, Dr. Paul Means and Dr. Mark Williams and a special thank you to Sandy Gallagher.
