Obituary of Irene Rose Sedlacko

Mount Pleasant, PA Irene Rose Sedlacko, age 90 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Saturday (07/27/13) in the H J Heinz VA Medical Center, Aspinwall, PA. Miss Sedlacko was born August 22, 1922 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Katherine (Gonda) Sedlacko. She was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, and its Rosary Altar Society. Irene was a 1941 graduate of the former East Huntingdon High School where she developed an interest in American History, and was an active participant in the drama club. After graduation, Irene contributed to the war efforts by working at a defense plant in Detroit and then enlisting in the United States Navy in 1944. After WWII, she resided in Mount Pleasant where her family, friends and church became her primary focus. She was a dedicated member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Branch 44, Jednota Lodge, and the American Legion Post 446 of Mt. Pleasant. Irene had the ability to find kindness and good in everyone she knew. She was a gentle soul, who had a smile for everyone and found the greatest joy in living, which she shared with every person whose life she touched, sharing her love with them all. She will be remembered and greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Irene was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Irene is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: George, Joseph and John Sedlacko; her sisters: Mary Fedorchek, Kathryn Slanina, Agnes Honeychuck, Sophie Mallchok, Margaret Kopacko, and Dorothy Sedlacko. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held at 9:30AM on Thursday in the funeral home, followed by Irene's Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. The Visitation Rosary Altar Society will pray the rosary at 6:30PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
