Obituary of Dolores Lucas
Mount Pleasant, Dolores "Dolly" Havash Lucas, age 80 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Saturday (10/27/12) in the Amber House at Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Lucas was born June 5, 1932 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late John and Mary Novotny Havash. She was a member of Visitation of the B.V.M. Roman Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society and Christian Mothers. Dolly was a 1950 graduate of the former Hurst High School. At the age of 19, she began working for the former Walworth Valve Co. of South Greensburg, then for the Georgia Pacific Corp. She worked as a Bookkeeper for Goo's Corner Café and the former Goo's East Restaurant. She had also been a Secretary at the Norvelt Elementary School, where she retired with 10 years of Service. She was an active member of the former Shaft Club Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. Dolly was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, sharing with them the family secrets to making great bread and Pierogi. Her family lovingly referred to her as the "Domestic Diva". Dolly was also an avid gardener, a gifted seamstress and a true animal lover, who especially adored her dogs.
Dolly is survived by her loving family: her children; Diane E. Bailey and her husband Bernard of Mt. Pleasant, Jeanne M Ponko and her husband Edmund of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Timothy E. Lucas of Mt. Lebanon, her beloved grandchildren: Brandy Gratzinger and Marc, Amanda and Maddi Ponko, and Cody and Tyler Lucas, and by her great grandchildren, Gracie and Layla Gratzinger. She is also survived by her sisters, Isabelle McElfresh of Mt. Pleasant and Josephine Grosser of West Virginia, and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene R. Lucas in 1981, and her brothers and sisters: Felix, John, George, Steven and Sylvester Havash , Mary Fornal, Eleanor Prevenslik, Anne Havash and an infant sister, Betty Havash.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.
A blessing service will be held Tuesday in the funeral home at 12:30PM followed by her 1:00 PM Funeral Mass in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A Parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 3:15PM and a rosary will be recited immediately following by the Visitation Rosary Altar Society and the Christian Mothers.
