Obituary of Donald R. Rath

Mount Pleasant, Donald R. Rath, age 80 of Mount Pleasant, PA died Monday, 10/08/12 at the Mountain View Nursing Center, Unity Township. Mr. Rath was born September 23, 1932, a son of the late Joseph and Libby Stefl Rath. He was a member of the former Transfiguration Parish in Mount Pleasant, and a current member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. Don was a graduate of the former Hurst High School. He served in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from USX, Edgar Thompson Mill in Braddock. Don was also owner of the former Rath's Poultry and Rath's Florist and Greenhouse in Mount Pleasant, and enjoyed restoring cars in his body shop. Don was a member of the American Legion Post 446, AM Vets Post 94, the Polish Falcons Nest 147, and a Life Member of the East Huntingdon Sportsman's Association and the United Steel Workers Union, Local 1219. Don is survived by his son, David J. Rath and his wife Teresa of Unity Township, his brother, William A. Rath and his wife Cindy of Vanderbilt, and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Zeglin Rath in 2007, his brothers, Ernest J. Rath in 1995 and Elmer K Rath in 2011, and by two infant sisters. Family and friend will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant, PA. A Blessing Service will be held Friday in the Funeral Home at 9:30 AM, followed by Don's Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Pius X RC Church, with the Rev. Dennis A. Bogusz as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, with Full Military Rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446. A Parish wake service will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM in the funeral home.
