Obituary of Joseph Michael Maholtz

Mount Pleasant, Joseph Michael Maholtz, age 93 of Mount Pleasant, PA, went home to the Lord on Saturday (06/16/2012) at the home of his daughter Michele in Vero Beach, FL. Mr. Maholtz was born March 13, 1919 in Cartiff, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Balant Maholtz. He was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church. Joe was a 1937 graduate of Huston Twp. High School. He then joined the Civil Conservation Corps in 1938, serving as a clerk for Road and Forrestry in Clearfield County. In 1951 he graduated from the Ross Heffler School of Conservation. Joe then served as District Game Protector for more than twenty years. In 1973 he was promoted to Law Enforcement Assistant of the Southwest Division in Ligonier, where he retired from in March of 1984. Mr. Maholtz was a member of Marion Lodge #562 F & AM. Joe was also a proud veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and was a gifted carver of wooden birds. Joe was a loving and caring husband and father. He is survived by his loving family: his children; Edward Maholtz and Pam of Acme, Jo Ann Maholtz at home, Michele Maholtz, M.D. and her husband Thomas Larson of Vero Beach, FL, and Marjorie Caldiera of South Dakota., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Maholtz was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie M. Osti Maholtz in 2002, his son, William Wing in 2011,and by his brother and sister; Edward Maholtz and Suzanne Zavatsky. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 6 until 9PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 9:30AM followed by his 10:00AM Funeral Mass in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
