Obituary of Joseph Patrick Murtha

Mount Pleasant, Joseph Patrick Murtha Jr., age 50 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Sunday, (5/20/12).as the result of an automobile accident. Mr. Murtha was born January 12, 1962 in Greensburg, PA, the son of Patricia Ulishney Murtha of Mt. Pleasant and the late Joseph P. Murtha. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church of Mt. Pleasant. Joe was a graduate of Southmoreland High School. He was self employed, the owner of Ace Painting Company and a member of the Painter's Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and assisting with the concession stands at wrestling matches. Joe was a dedicated and loving son, father and brother. He is survived by his loving family: his mother Patricia, his sons; Cole Patrick Murtha and Joseph Ryan Murtha and Nicole , all of Mt. Pleasant, his sisters; Lee Ann Gavlak and Tom of Irwin, Kim Schmidt and Lou of Jeannette, and Barbara Murtha of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by his companion, Amy Keefer, and by his nephew and nieces, Matt and Sarah Burnsworth and Hannah Schmidt. In addition to his father, Joe was also preceded in death by his brother; James Murtha in 2008. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. Funeral services for Joe will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
