Obituary of Gertrude Evancho

Mount Pleasant, Gertrude Balcerek Evancho, age 84 of Mount Pleasant died Sunday (08/29/10) in the Amber House, Mount Pleasant. Mrs. Evancho was born March 31, 1926 in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Habrat Balcerek. Gertrude was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, and the former Transfiguration Parish and its Holy Rosary Society. She had worked at the former Davidson Clothing store in Mt. Pleasant. Gertie was an excellent cook and baker, and a gifted seamstress. She was always meticulous about her work, her dress and her home. Gertie was a kind lady who always had a smile for everyone. She will be missed by all who had known her. She is survived by her loving family: her daughter,Jackie Kruzic of Hempfield, Twp., her grandchildren; Courtney Kruzic and Colin Kruzic and his wife Sharie and by her great grandchildren, Taylor and Emerson. Gertie is also survived by her brothers; Walter J. "Mert" Balcerek and his wife Betty, and Vincent R. "Bib" Balcerek and his wife Henrietta, by her sister, Patricia J. Smithnosky, and by her sister-in-law Pauline Balcerek, all of Mt. Pleasant, and by Lance Kruzic of Greensburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. "Bub" Evancho in 2008, by her brothers; Thomas, Edward and Paul Balcerek and by her sister, Florence Sochacki. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing will be held on Wednesday at 9:30am at the funeral home, followed by her 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will be in the Transfiguration Parish Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. A Parish wake service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday @3pm and the Transfiguration Holy Rosary Society will pray the rosary @6pm. The family wishes to thank the staff at Amber House and Grane Hospice for their kindness and excellent care.
