Paul Furlo

Obituary of Paul V. Furlo

Paul V. Furlo, 78, of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday December 14, 2024 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.  Mr. Furlo was born June 7, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant to the late Ignatius “Iggy” and Mary Zadylak Furlo.

Paul was a graduate of Scottdale High School class of 1964.  He was a member of St. Pius X R.C. Church in Mt. Pleasant.  Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy, in Florida, as an airplane hydraulics mechanic, he was able to obtain a part time job as a carpenter and built many homes there also.  Paul was a self-employed carpenter, subcontractor for many general contractors and late a general contractor for himself.  He was a master of his trade. Much of his work can be seen throughout the Western PA area as a memory of his excellent skill.  He also enjoyed volunteering The Police Rod & Gun Club and he built a dormitory for the Pittsburgh YMCA.  Paul enjoyed being a Boy Scout, and later in life became he became a Cub Scout master of Cathedral Church Pack 414 for many years.  When he wasn’t working 16 to 18 hour days, his favorite place to go was his camp, “The Silver Bullet” in Ridgeway, PA.  Paul had many lifetime achievements but one that he was very proud of was co-inventing a scaffolding system, called Flex-Frame with a co-worker.  After retirement, Paul enjoyed watching YouTube for any videos related to building, woodworking, or forestry.  He also liked to find new jokes to tell family and friends, his sense of humor was never lacking.  I sure hope heaven has hamburgers and potato chips and if they do, Paul will be first in line, as those were his favorite foods!

Paul is survived by his loving family, his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis “Sandy” Patrilla Furlo; his three children, Christopher Paul (Lori), Carey Allen (Christy), and Mary Christine; and by his grandchildren, Alexandria, and Zachary.  He is also survived by his sisters, Theresa Dolney, Antoinette “Toni” Hominsky, and Joan Furlo, all of Scottdale; his sister-in-laws, Mary Sue Callaghan, Janine Shutty (Joe), both of Mt. Pleasant, and Louise Garrison (Dan), of Nice, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Furlo; and his brother-in-law, Dale Callaghan.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Pius X R.C. Church.  Interment will follow in St. Pius X Parish Cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 446 of Mt.
