Dorothy Pfeifer

Obituary of Dorothy O. Pfeifer

Dorothy O. Pfeifer (96) died Wednesday, October 30, 2024, with her nephew, Dan Pfeifer and his wife, Debbie at her side.  Born April 27, 1928, to Harrold Oden Young and Mary Evelyn Sager Young, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard (Dick) Pfeifer (2002) and infant daughter, Carole Lynn (1958).

Dorothy grew up in Wilkinsburg, PA and was a proud graduate of Wilkinsburg High School, class of 1946.  After graduation, she moved to Mount Pleasant where she met and married Dick on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948.  She worked in sales for the W.T. Grant Co. and Jacobs Women’s Wear until her retirement.  After retirement, she and Dick enjoyed antiquing and refurbishing furniture pieces.  She loved going to auctions and yard sales, and was always searching for special finds for family and friends.  For many years, she was instrumental in organizing the church sales at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant, of which she was a member.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Dan Pfeifer (Debbie), their son, Danny (Laura) and daughter Madelyn, who brought her much joy; Jane Ann Yaworski (Arian) and son, Nicholas; William Genard and Rebecca Genard. Surviving cousins, Nancy Miller and children Jeff, Dru and Craig; Judy Doncaster (John) who was like a sister to her and their children, Jeanne Toohey (Paul) and children, Jordan, Jenna, and Lucas; David Doncaster (Wendy) and children, Samantha and Jack; Russ Sager, Kathy Ruth, and Becky Schomer.

Although, she had no children, she was so supportive and interested in the accomplishments of the younger generation.  She taught them magic tricks (they even presented magic shows), the importance of a good work ethic and especially managing their money.  At 96, though frail, she was one of the lucky ones as she was so aware of everything happening in the world.

A private committal service officiated by her Pastor Peter Norby will be held Tuesday, November 5th at 1:00 p.m. in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  All arrangements have been entrusted to Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  The family would like to thank Independence Hospice for their assistance and the support team, especially her special aide Lori and nurse, Dariann.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 822 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666.  To leave an online condolence please visit our website at www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
