Obituary of Olive Mae Gowton

 

 

Olive Mae Gowton, 82 of Mt. Pleasant, was called home Thursday June 27, 2024 to be with the Lord and is once again reunited with the love of her life, Orion.  There are no words that can describe how beautiful that reunion must have been.  Olive was born September 9, 1941 in Jockey Knob to the late John and Mabel Sanner.

Olive was a graduate of Connellsville Area High School.  She was a member of Mt. Tabor Church of God and attended Fairview Church in Hammondville.   She worked with her husband operating Gowton Trucking Company and was a wonderful homemaker for her husband and daughters.  Olive was the head of the Bullskin Elementary Bicentennial in 1976, president of the PTA, part of the Bullskin Cheerleaders Boosters, a founding member of the Bullskin swimming pool, and a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader.  She also worked for Charlie Kantorik at his implement store, Connellsville Sportsware, the secretary at Darlene’s School of Dance and was a substitute secretary at Bullskin Elementary School.  Olive was very gifted at sewing and enjoyed spending time with her family. 

Olive is survived by her loving family, her daughters, Kris Zufall (Tim), Stephanie Boriack (Clark), and Paige Oldham (William); her grandchildren, Kortney Zufall (Rich), Pierce Cook (Cierra), Alexis Cook (Andrew), Sutton Boriack, and William Oldham Jr.; her great-granddaughters, Josey Holan, and one great-granddaughter on the way.  She is also survived by her sisters, Agnes Rummell (Ron), and Debra Colfresh (Walter); her sister-in-laws, Judy Sabota (John), Mary Fontanazza (Mario), Frances Hoke (Fred “Butch”), Nancy Gowton, and Linda Sanner, and numerous extended family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Orion Gowton in 2019; her brothers, Wilbert Sanner and John “Peck” Sanner (Mabel); her infant sister, Joanne; her father and mother-in-law, Eugene and Jesse “Tibby” Gowton; and her brother-in-law, Tom Gowton.

Family and friends will be received on Monday from 11:00 until the hour of her funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant.  Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Kecksburg.  A Celebration of Olive’s life will be held at a later date.  The family would like to send a special thank you to Connie Eicher and the entire staff at Eicher’s Family Home Care, her hospice nurse, Phyllis Basinger; and Pastor Brian Swann for their wonderful care of Olive.  Love lasts forever!  To leave an online condolence please visit our website at www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
