Obituary of James Lee Etling

James Lee Etling, 89, of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Saturday, May 11th, 2024. "Jim", son of Charles and Alma Etling, loving husband of Edith Mullin Etling, passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife, Edith, and two sons, James (Julie) and Jeffrey, as well as three grandchildren, Alex (Kiley), Emily (Devin), and Sarah, and one great-grandchild, Milo. Jim worked at PPG Industries in Greensburg, PA and had been enjoying retirement for many years. He was a US Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. Jim had many hobbies — he was an avid woodworker, a Master Gardener, and an accomplished golfer. In his younger years he was quite an athlete, at one time playing semi-pro baseball and basketball. His athleticism made him a great golfer and a fierce competitor on a racquetball court. Jim had a quick wit and loved to banter with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation with family members will be at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant, Thursday May 16th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a memorial service afterwards.  Military Honors will be held in the funeral home at 4:30 p.m. by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446 and a Fireman’s Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. with the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to thank the staff of Excela Health Hospice for their kindness and wonderful care of Jim. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memoriam to the Alzheimer’s Association.  To offer an online condolence please visit our website at www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
