Obituary of Helen M. Brown

Helen M. Brown of Pittsburgh, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday May 7, 2023 at Allegheny General Hospital. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Brown was born January 2, 1937 to the late George and Helen M. Wasko Zekan.  She was raised in Scottdale and lived in Greensburg and Mt Pleasant before moving to Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Brown was an active member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. Helen was a graduate of Scottdale High School in 1954. She was involved with the St. Vincent DePaul Society,was a member of the Red Hat Society Ladies, and was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was also a big fan of Pirate baseball. Helen is survived by her loving children, Aliene Graner (Scott) of Pittsburgh, and Mark Brown (Shirley) of Ellicott City, MD; her loving grandchildren, Katie Graner, and Steven Graner (Ashley); her adoring great-grandchildren, Duncan and Celia Graner; her brothers, George Zekan (Jean) of California, and Robert Zekan of New Stanton; and by her sister-in-law, Sandra Zekan of Massachusetts. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Brown in 1968; and by her brother, Donald Zekan in 2019.

Family and friends are invited on Saturday June 3rd from 11 a.m. until the hour of her blessing service at 12:30 p.m. in Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle St. Mt. Pleasant. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. in St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. A private inurnment will follow in St. Johns Parish Cemetery, Scottdale.
