Obituary of Correne E. Baker

Bedford, Correne E. Baker, age 91 of Bedford PA, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday (8/6/2011) in the Donahoe Manor, Bedford, PA. Miss Baker was born May 25, 1920 in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of the late Elmer and Ada McDermott Baker. She was a member of the Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren, a devoted Christian who credits her long life and good health to her strong faith in God. Correne worked during WW II for the Penn Central Railroad. She had dropped out of high school and then later in life, obtained her GED. She continued learning and taking correspondence classes until the day she died. She loved writing letters and enjoyed spending time with and sharing stories of her life's challenges and her achievements with her friends and family, always giving credit to God. Correne's life story had been featured in the Tribune-Democrat, In the Spotlight Section, in the Saturday, May 15, 2010 edition. Correne is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, She was preceded in death by her sisters and brother; Ada Pounds in 1973, Mabel Gross in 1996, Ruth Bregar in 1982, John Baker in 1998 and Betty Martz Strojek in 2010. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 12-noon until 1:30PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home , 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant, PA. Correne's funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, with the Rev Ronald St. Clair officiating. Private Interment will be in the Mt. Joy Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
