Obituary of Edwin E. McClain

     

Edwin E. McClain, son of Emory J. and Irma Armel McClain, passed peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was a life long resident of Mt. Joy Rd., Mt. Pleasant PA. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Highschool class of 1967. 

 After graduation, Edwin was a member of the 1st Cav Division US Army where he served two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Ed was self-employed as a mason.  He was highly sought after throughout Western PA especially for his amazing and beautiful stone work.

 Ed’s pride and joy is his loving family. He married Diana K. Garchar on October 9, 1971. They share three children; Wendy L. Fabery, Krista B. Rodgers, and Travis W. McClain.  By far, his favorite title was Pappy to his six grandchildren Kendall and Gabrielle Fabery, Kinsley and Kamden Rodgers, and Ella and Sadie McClain. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with beautiful grandchildren. They brought him immense meaning to his life. 

 Ed was predeceased by his parents Emory and Irma McClain, Father In-Law William Garchar, brother James McClain, sister Virginia Whetsel, honorary sister Patty Jones, and nephew Kenton Iwaniec.

 Ed is survived by his loving wife Diana McClain, children Wendy(Robert)Fabery, Krista(Phillip)Rodgers, Travis(Rebecca)McClain, adoring grandchildren Kendall and Gabrielle Fabery, Kinsley and Kamden Rodgers, Ella and Sadie McClain, Mother in-law Rosalie McConnell Garchar, sisters Lois Shaw and Phyllis Seder, Brothers Charles and William McClain, sisters in-law Linda (Ray) Brown, Debra (Kenneth) Iwaniec, honorary sister Jolene McClain, honorary son Josh Brown and his multiple nieces and nephews, close great-nephews, Brian (Mary)McClain and Mark(Pam) McClain. 

Family and friends will be received Friday, February 24th, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant.  A private memorial service to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to: The Stanley Marks Blood Cancer Research Fund, PO Box 18042, Pittsburgh PA 15236. 

The McClain Family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Rossetti MD and his staff at Lemieux Center for Blood Cancers at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Shadyside, Dr. John Morcos and his staff at the Hillman Cancer Center of Frick Hospital. The care, support and love Ed received from both centers helped to bring comfort to his family as he fought to battle Leukemia.
