Obituary of John R. Kaputa
John "Jack" "Gums" Kaputa, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant died September 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Kaputa was born November 10, 1937 in Hecla to the late John and Elizabeth Smithula Kaputa.
Mr. Kaputa was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, where he was an usher for 4:30 Mass on Saturday and a member of their Rosary Society. He was a graduate of the former Hurst High School. Jack served in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and worked at Powerex for over 38 years. He was a lifetime member and Officer at Hecla Sportsmen's Club. Jack was an avid bird feeder, who loved to make bird feeders for his beloved goldfinch, cardinals, humming birds, and baltimore orioles. Mr. Kaputa took pride in his appearance and was always a sharp and fancy dresser. Jack was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers fan.
Jack is survived by his loving family, his children Dr. Bryan Kaputa (Debbie) of Salisbury, MD, Gary Kaputa of Mt. Pleasant, and Jackie Kaputa of Greensburg; his loving grandchildren, Ally Kaputa, Jack Kaputa, and Will Kaputa. Jack is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Edward (Leona) Witek, and Josephine (John) Cernuska. In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne E. Witek Kaputa in 2005; his brother, Virgil "Bunky" Kaputa; and his special sister-in-law and friend, Helen Witek.
Family and friends will be received Friday September 23, 2022 from 4 to 8 PM in Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle St. Mt. Pleasant. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 9:30 Am followed by Jack's Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church. Interment with military honors will be accorded by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 4468 in Transfiguration Parish Cemetery.
