Obituary of Lena Elizabeth Hovanec

Lena Elizabeth (Biller) Hovanec, age 95 of Mount Pleasant PA, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Excela Health- Frick Hospital Mount Pleasant, surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Hovanec was born on March 31, 1927, the daughter of the late Leo and Emma Krause Biller.    

Mrs. Hovanec was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church and their Christian Mothers.  Lena was a great cook who made the best pierogies and baked amazing nut rolls.  She enjoyed the occasional scratch off ticket and loved to share her winnings.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Lena is survived by her loving children, Sandra Canada (Joseph) of Irwin, Francine Hovanec (Jim Gaffey) of Greensburg, and Richard Hovanec of Mt. Pleasant; her beloved grandchildren, Erin Owen (Phillip) , Lauren Canada, Rick Hovanec (Jami),  Ashlee Schroyer (Brant); her great grandchildren Griffin and Frances Owen, Jaxon and Jace Schroyer, and Aiden and Bryce Hovanec; and by her daughter-in-law Debbie Hovanec and her son Brandon Harclerode.  In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by the love of her life her husband, Francis R. Hovanec in 1980; and by her siblings, Wilma Oparnica, Mary George, Anna Mae Isola, Dolores Cross, Caroline Thompson, Leo Biller Jr., Eugene Biller and Leona Maczka.

Family and friends will be received Monday from 2 to 8 PM at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.  A blessing service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30 AM followed by her funeral mass at 11:00 AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church.  Interment will be in the Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Visitation Christian Mothers in loving memory of Lena E.
