Obituary of Meredith M. Trout

Reverend Meredith (Turtle) Trout, 86, of Mount Pleasant, passed away unexpectedly in Missouri while participating in a missionary training conference. Turtle was born in Mount Pleasant on August 14th, 1935 to the late Nelson Trout and Margaret (Thomas) Trout. He and his wife Betty (Jones) were married in July of 1955 and enjoyed 64 loving years together. After both graduated from the Greensburg Bible Institute they went on to train with New Tribes Mission and served as missionaries for over 60 years. While serving in Bolivia, they helped make contact with the previously unreached Arona tribe, learned their language, worked to translate the Bible and faithfully illustrated Gods love and saving grace to them. Through the years they also took mission teams on service trips to numerous countries around the world, helping to build churches, supply medical aid and teach the gospel. Turtle was intimately connected to many churches and when not serving in other countries, was often found sharing his faith and experiences with local congregations. His passion and infectious sense of humor are legendary among those who knew him and he and Betty’s example of how to love and serve others is an inspiration to all of us. Turtle is survived by his 3 loving children Melanie (Nelson) Rotz of Chambersburg, David Trout of Mt. Pleasant, and Michelle (Dave) Reese of Chambersburg and by his 10 adoring grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Clyde (Dee) Trout and Terry (Kelly Joe) Trout. A Celebration of Life service is planned for July 16th at the Woodale Bible Brethren Church at 2:00PM. There will be no grave side service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Tribal Bible School Project in Turtles area of Bolivia at: International Tribal Ministries, PO Box 3529, Monument, Colorado 80132.
