Obituary of Joyce Luanne Bischoff

Joyce Luanne Bischoff, age 84 of Latrobe PA, died Thursday, March 31, 2022 in the Excela Health-Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Mrs. Bischoff was born December 11, 1937 in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Wilbert H. and Rebecca Alberta Brown Barner who passed away in 1937. In 1941 Wilbert got remarried to the late Anna M. Anderson Barner, and together they raised Joyce. Joyce was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Stanton, formerly of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant where she had been a choir member for 50 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, WELC officer, chairman of altar guild, and also assisted with rummage sales and funeral dinners during her time at Good Shepherd. Joyce graduated from East McKeesport High School in 1955 and Thiel College in 1959. She was a member of Tri-Beta, The Honorary Biological Society and Sigma Kappa Sorority. She furthered her education at the former D.T. Watson School of Physical Therapy and accepted her first job at McKeesport Hospital. Joyce worked many years for Westmoreland Hospital and Latrobe Home Health & Keystone Rehabilitation before retiring. She had been a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and was very active with the MP Band Parents and Rainbow Girls Advisory Board. She was a proud master knitter in the 1990’s who knitted sweaters for designers for National Magazines. Needlepoint was another favorite hobby and she made the kneeler for the church. Joyce was Superintendent for knitting and crocheting at the Westmoreland County Fair for 10 yrs. She volunteered her time for the Arts & Crafts Festivals at Twin Lakes Park and delivered Meals on Wheels in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Bischoff also enjoyed traveling especially with friends Charles and Danielle Palmer to many places within the United States, Alaska, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean and Europe. She is survived by her loving daughters, Luanne Kerrigan (Michael) and Linda Polakovsky (Ed); and her beloved grandchildren, Joseph Kerrigan (Jennifer), Jacob Kerrigan, Adam Polakovsky (Allison), and Emily Polakovsky. In addition to her parents Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Donald E. Bischoff. Family and friends will be received 2 to 6 PM Sunday at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant. A funeral service will be held Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Stanton at 10 AM (Please go directly to church). Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
