Obituary of Joseph Edward Hornick

Mount Pleasant, Joseph Edward Hornick, age 74 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Sunday (05/22/11) in the Mountainview Select Specialty Nursing Home, Greensburg, PA. Mr. Hornick was born December 16, 1936 in Mount Pleasant, the son of the late Joseph and Sophia Smulski Hornick. He was member of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Branch 44. Mr. Hornick was self employed all of his life repairing refrigeration units for area restaurants and social clubs. He was a true animal lover and enjoyed feeding his birds daily. Junior was a gifted wood workman, whose specialties were his beautiful bird houses and flower stands which he made for his family and his friends. He also was an avid gardener who loved sharing the fruits of his labor with everyone. Joe is survived by his loving family: his brother, with whom he resided, Lawrence A. Hornick of Mt. Pleasant, his sister; Mary Haas and her husband John of North Huntingdon, his niece and nephew; Cynthia Haines and her husband Roger of Mt. Pleasant and Richard A. Haas and his wife Mary of Beaver County, and by his cousin Betty Lou Wacko and her son Colt of Acme. Joe will also be greatly missed by his best friend and companion, his niece's dog, "Emme". In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister: Dorothy Martinowski in 1994. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday @9:30AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary RC Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will be in the Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A Parish Wake service will be held Wednesday at 2:30PM in the funeral home.
