Obituary of Owen Alvin Long

Owen A. “Sonny” Long, age 78 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Saturday, (8/28/2021) in the Excela Health-Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA. Mr. Long was born July 13, 1943 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Owen A. Long, Sr. and Charlotte Fenton Long Martin and Charles Martin. He was a member of St. John’s Union Church. Prior to his retirement, Sonny was employed by Overmyer Mould Company as a Store Room Clerk. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 60 years, Ruth Whetzel Long, his daughters, Shirley (Frank) Murtha of Latrobe and Joanne (Joseph) Karadus of Union City, IN, his daughter in law, Patricia Long of Mt. Pleasant and by his five Grandchildren; Michael (Tracey), David, Shawn, Kelly, and Joseph and three Great Grandchildren, Chase, Miles, and Joseph. Owen is also survived by his aunts, Jean Fenton and Arlene Assey. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his son, David M. Long and by his sister, Cheryl Long. Honoring Sonny’s wishes, there will be no hours of public visitation. Private Graveside Services will be held at St. John’s Union Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
