Catherine Carmella (Miele) Shutty, age 89 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Friday, (08/20/2021) in Hempfield Manor, Greensburg, PA. Mrs. Shutty was born November 6, 1931 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Maliandi Miele. She was an active member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, where she was always involved in the Lenten dinners and church festivals. Catherine was a graduate of the former Hurst High School. She had been the manager of the former Candyland Store for many years. Catherine worked the polls on Election Day and enjoyed going toSilver Sneakers at the YMCA. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed canning, and would always compare herself to Asiago Cheese, “Sharp and aged”. Catherine enjoyed talking to people and always seemed to have a smile on her face for everyone. She will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Catherine is survived by her loving family: her children, Joseph A. Shutty and his wife Janine of Mt. Pleasant and Elizabeth “Betsy” Kulick and her husband Kenneth of Greensburg and by her beloved grandchildren, Steven and Nicholas Stefano. She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Jerry (Patricia) Miele of Mt. Pleasant, Joseph (Mary Jane) Miele of Mentor, OH, and Sister Carmelita Miele of Greensburg. In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shutty in 2004 and by her brother, Felix Miele. Family and friends are invited to attend Catherine’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, 8/25/2021 at 11:00AM at St. Pius X RC Church, Summit and Silver Streets, Mount Pleasant. (Everyone is asked to please meet at the church). Interment will be in the St. Pius X Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
