Obituary of William Earl Gratzinger

William E. “Bill” Gratzinger, age 91 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died peacefully Friday (07/12/2019) in the Excela-Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

Mr. Gratzinger was born August 20, 1927 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late William and Anna Hoyman Gratzinger.  He was a member of St. Pius X  Roman Catholic Church,  where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and the former Transfiguration Parish.  Bill was a graduate of the former Ramsay High School and had attended Waynesburg College. He was a proud veteran of WWII who served in the United States Army.   Bill served on the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and held the position of  Chief of Police for many years. He also was a life member of the MPVFD where he also served as the Fire Chief. After his retirement from the Police Force, Bill served as Personnel Director for the  7 Springs Resort for more than 20 years.

Bill is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Deborah Gratzinger, his grandchildren, Andre and Candice Martin and by his great grandchildren, Layla and Damion.  He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Gratzinger.  In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy “Dolly” Jacak Gratzinger in June of 2018 and by his brother, Robert and his sister, Lois.

Family and friends will be received Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home,  204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant.

A blessing service will be held Friday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home, followed by Bill's Funeral Mass at   10:00 AM   in St. Pius X RC  Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Rev  Dennis A. Bogusz as celebrant.

Interment with Military Rites Accorded by the American Legion Post 446 will be in the Middle Presbyterian Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Township.  MPVDF will conduct memorial services Thursday in the funeral home @ 6PM.
