Obituary of John Robert Ceroni

John Robert “Cat” Ceroni, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Excela Health Frick Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 16, 1946, in Mt. Pleasant, PA,  the son of the late James and Margaret Crivella Ceroni. He was a member of the St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. “Cat” graduated from Ramsay High School in 1964. He served with the 110 Infantry Division of the  Pennsylvania Army National Guard. John attended Penn State University and Westmoreland County Community College, earning a degree in Criminal Justice. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Municipal Police Training Center. “Cat” retired from Westmoreland County where he held positions as Director of General Services at Westmoreland Manor, Deputy Public Safety Director and Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator at the Department of Public Safety. Most of John’s career was in the Public Safety field holding positions as Chief of Police for Mount Pleasant Borough, Assistant Director for the City of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services, and Administrator at the Center for Emergency Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Health Center. John was one of the original 10 founding members of the Mount Pleasant Emergency Medical Services, Medic 10. John was a member  of the Elks Lodge 77of Scottdale, the Donegal American Legion, the Mount Pleasant Fireman's Club, the Assunta Club, Bridgeport Sportsmen’s Club, Hecla Sportsmen’s Club, South Greensburg Hunting Club, Connellsville Rod & Gun Club, Sinnemahoning Sportsmen Club, the Police Association of Cape Coral, the National Rifle Association and the Penn State Alumni Association.

 

“Cat” enjoyed spending the winters with his wife in Fort Myers Florida. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing poker, and loafing at his cousin Coke’s Barber Shop. His greatest joy however, came from spending time with his family.

 

He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Barbara Kritschgau Ceroni,  his daughters; Christian Brnilovich and husband Rudy and  Bobbi Keefer, and his, son Matthew and wife Jennifer, all of Mount Pleasant and by his granddaughters, who were the love of his life, Erin Frazier and Mike Dopkowski, Danielle Kavel and her husband William, and Gabrielle Keefer and her dad, David of Mount Pleasant.   “Cat” is also survived by his brother, William Ceroni, his sister, Dr. Kathleen Ceroni and her husband Dr. Michael Polechko of Mount Pleasant, his sister in law, Marie Ceroni of Latrobe,  and brother in law, John Dipasquale of Mt. Pleasant and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda DiPasquale and by his brother Donald “De De” Ceroni.

 

Family and friends may pay their respects from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Saturday December 15th at St. Pius X RC Church, 224 Summit St, Mt Pleasant, PA 15666.  His Funeral mass will follow at 12:30 PM with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Private Inurnment will be in St. Pius X  Parish Cemetery.
