Obituary of Anthony J. DeFilippo

Anthony J. DeFilippo, 89 of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, PA, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 19th, in the UNC Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. Mr. DeFilippo was born June 16th, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, PA, a son of the late Gaetano and Pasqualina (Martorella) DeFilippo. He was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, Raleigh, NC and a former member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, PA. He was a 1946 graduate of the former Ramsay High School in Mt. Pleasant, PA. Anthony attended and obtained many degrees from DeForests Training Resident School in Chicago, St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and Pitt University of Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. During his military service he attended Radar School. He was employed by Kennametal of Latrobe, PA, in the Designer Engineering Department and later transferred to the Kennametal Division in Raleigh, NC where he was an Associate Tooling Engineer. Tony is survived by his two nephews; Ron DeFilippo Sr., and his wife Joan and Don DeFilippo and his wife Judy, all of Mt. Pleasant, PA, eight great nephews and nieces; Ron DeFilippo, Jr. and his fiancée Marie Cothran, Michael DeFilippo and his wife Holly, Robbie DeFilippo, Jayme DeFilippo and his wife Marlena, Ryan DeFilippo and his wife Karen, Angela (DeFilippo) Zelenak and her husband Matthew, Alyssa DeFilippo and her friend Brad Lape, and the stepdaughter of Ron DeFilippo, Sr. and daughter of Joan DeFilippo, Kathy Blaine,two great-great nephews, Mattox Zelenak and Landon DeFilippo, and one great-great niece, Mikaela DeFilippo. In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceeded in death by his sisters, Rosina and Helen DeFilippo and by his brothers; Antonio, Angelo, and Michael DeFilippo. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his family, Tony will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors in Raleigh, NC, especially the Patterson Family, Ron and Laura and their two children Gracie and Joseph, all of whom were very special to him. As per the wishes of our beloved "Uncle Tony" there will be no hours of public visitation. Inurnment will be private.
