Obituary of Leo E. Nitkiewicz

Leo E. Nitkiewicz , age 89 of Mount Pleasant, PA, died Friday (03/30/18) at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Nitkiewicz was born November 4, 1928 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late John and Frances Konowalski Nitkiewicz. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and the former Transfiguration Parish. Leo was a 1947 graduate of the former Hurst High School. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Leo had been employed by the Powerex Corporation. He was a member of the VFW Post 3368 and the Kosciuszko Club. Leo is survived by his loving family: his devoted wife of 64 ½ years, Dorothy (Frederick) Nitkiewicz; his children, Bridget Sue Nitkiewicz and her husband Christopher Curtis of Dayton, OH, Paulette Nitkiewicz of Mt. Pleasant, and Philip Nitkiewicz and his wife Amy of Latrobe, his grandchildren; Christopher Nitkiewicz (Sarah), Ashley Nitkiewicz, Evan Curtis, Juline Curtis, and Matthew Nitkiewicz, and one great granddaughter, Cecilia Vincent. Leo is also survived by his brothers, John and Julius Nitkiewicz , his sister Betty Mencer, numerous nieces and nephews; by his beloved dog, Mia. In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his brother and five sisters. Honoring Leo's wishes, there will be no hours of public visitation. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Leo's funeral mass on Wednesday at 10AM in St. Pius X RC Church, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice, 109 Crossroads, Suite 400, Scottdale, PA 15683, in memory of Leo E. Nitkiewicz.
