Obituary of Rita I. Abromson
Rita I. Abromson, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, age 96, died at UPMC East Hospital on August 25th. Mrs. Abromson was the youngest and last survivor of the five children born to the late Harry and Celia Goldstein of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She met her husband, the late Mt. Pleasant Attorney Henry Abromson, at a USO dance in Minneapolis during WW II. She was serving there as a volunteer hostess. He attended the dance while passing through Minneapolis with the Army. They married a few months later and were able to spend the war years together at various Army posts, until separated by Mr. Abromson's shipment overseas. They reunited at war's end and established their permanent home in Mt. Pleasant, where Mr. Abromson resumed his law practice. There, they raised their family and lived their lives.
Mrs. Abromson was a volunteer at H.C. Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant for over fifty years. She began her volunteer services at the original Frick Hospital on Main Street in Mt. Pleasant and was recognized for devoting thousands of hours as a volunteer at the reception desk at Frick. For her dedication, Mrs. Abromson was also honored as Mt. Pleasant Citizen of The Month.
Mrs. Abromson was a lifelong member of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Mt. Pleasant, as well as its Hadassah chapter and Sisterhood.
She is survived by her two children, Harlee Anne Abromson-Kuth, of Penn Hills and Atty. Nathan F. Abromson, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
