Obituary of Donald J. Ceroni

Donald J. “DeDe” Ceroni , age 79 of Norvelt, PA, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

Mr. Ceroni was born September 10, 1937 in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late James and Margaret Crivella Ceroni. He was a member of  the St. Florian Parish of United. DeDe was a 1955 graduate of the former Ramsay High School. He then earned three Masters Degrees in History, Guidance, and Elementary Education from California University of PA . He was employed for over 35 years as a Guidance Counselor at Greensburg Central Catholic, and later at Mt. Pleasant Area High School, until his retirement. He was passionate about his profession, always going the extra mile to help his students. DeDe was well respected by the college admissions board members, and had a strong conviction to help the underdog. He was known by his students as Mr. Ceroni, and on Sports Talk Radio as “Double D from Mt. Pleasant”. He enjoyed telling stories about the Secondary Schools and Colleges   he helped “his” students get into, and the gratitude of the students and their parents who thanked him for doing what he was so passionate about. DeDe had also been a basketball official for high school and college for over 25 years.  He was a life member of the Hecla Sportsman’s Club, The Assunta Club and the BPOE.  DeDe enjoyed golfing, Steeler Football, PITT, the Pirates and watching Jeopardy.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of over 55 years, Marie Krivonik Ceroni,  his daughters, Sherry Fleming and her husband Donald of Mt. Pleasant and Lurleen McGannon and her husband Stephen of Latrobe and by his adoring grandchildren; Jason Fleming and his wife Laura, Kayla Fleming and fiancé Capt. Allen Magnone, Gregory Fleming, Brandon McGannon and Alexis McGannon “his little pistol”. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Ceroni and her husband Michael Polechko, and by his brothers, John Robert Ceroni and his wife Barbara, and William Ceroni, his sister in law, Barbara (Henry) Krivonik, his brother in law, John DiPasquale and his wife Sandy and by several nieces,  nephews, cousins and many friends, including his lifelong friend of 70 years, James Farrell, and his extended family member, Judy Krizan,, with gratitude for her love and support. In addition to his parents, DeDe was preceded in death by his sister, Linda DiPasquale, his In- laws, Stephen and Katherine (Rady) Krivonik, his brother in law, Stephen Krivonik, Jr. and his sister in law, Eva Krivonik Ferraro.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at Allegheny General Hospital for their care and compassion throughout his treatment and during this difficult time. We are sure he will be watching sports and definitely coaching the Pirates, Steelers, and Pitt from his new box seat in the sky.
