Charlotte Gonofsky

Obituary of Charlotte Gonofsky

Charlotte (Horak) Gonofsky, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, PA died Monday, April 27, 2026 at her home with her  loving husband, family and caretaker, Cheryl Hall by her side.  Mrs. Gonofsky was born October 24, 1942 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Charles and Sophie (Kubiak) Horak.

Charlotte was a faithful member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church.  She graduated in 1960 from the former Ramsay High School.  In 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack, and together raised their family.  She had been employed by Karfelts Dept. Store, Moreland Sportsware, Volkswagen, Williamhouse Man., Wilkinson Nursery and Candyland and she enjoyed working at all of them.  She had also spent many years working with her mom, selling “Sophies’ Pizza” out of her kitchen.  Charlotte enjoyed taking care of her plants and flowers.  This was her favorite time of year, traveling to all the garden centers and flower shops in the area.  She loved caring for all the little critters that frequented her yard.  Anything that wandered in always had something to eat.  She loved working in the yard, listening to the oldies and country classics, and enjoying breakfast at Smillies Restaurant everyday with Jack and their friends.  Her greatest joy however, was caring for her family and spending time with them.  Charlotte loved people, she always had a smile for everyone and never a bad word for anyone.

She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  Charlotte is survived by her loving family; her husband of 64 years, John “Jack” Gonofsky; by her sons, Jon “Joey” Gonofsky and his wife Jennifer, of Bear Rocks, Chad Gonofsky and his wife Karen, and Joel Gonofosky, all of Mt. Pleasant; by her beloved grandchildren, Krista Gonofsky and her husband Nate Zimmerman of Connellsville, and Sophia and Lane Gonofsky; and by her great-granddaughter, Flora June Zimmerman.  She is also survived by her twin brother, Charles Horak and his wife Emma of Cookeville, TN, her niece and nephew, Darla and Charles “Chuckie”; and by her extended family and friends.  In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Horak in 2012.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Pleasant, where a Blessing Service will be held on Friday at 12:30 p.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church.  Entombment will be follow in Middle Presbyterian Cemetery.  The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Charlottes caregiver, Cheryl Hall, who instantly fell in love with her and became part of the family and to Redstone Hospice for the exceptional care they provided.  To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.galone-carusofuneralhome.com
