Obituary of Joseph R. Forys
February 24, 1934 - December 25, 2025
Joseph R. Forys, affectionately known as "Bobby," passed away peacefully at home in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on December 25, 2025.
Joseph lived his life with unwavering respect and compassion for God, his family, and his late wife, Amelia (Caruso) Forys, all of which guided every aspect of his life. He was well known for his determination, discipline and passion for the games of baseball, golf, and bowling, proudly rolling several perfect 300 games over the years. Bobby was often called a "perfectionist"! His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his conscientiousness for the "details". He will be remembered not only for his passing, but for the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him.
Joseph graduated from Hurst High School in Norvelt, PA, in 1952, and with his strong track record ("A" student), was provided with an academic scholarship to attend University of Virginia (from 1953 to 1956), where he was selected to play varsity baseball and earn a degree in Chemistry. Bobby was known for his many talents, but especially for his commitment to always achieve a high academic standard. He later continued his education at Duquesne University, receiving a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA). Once employed, he went on to have a successful career consisting of a multitude of experiences and accomplishments. Initially he concentrated his efforts in the field of chemistry, working at PPG and a couple of other professional organizations. Then, after achieving his MBA, Joseph moved into the area of Quality Management and dedicated 35+ years of service to Westinghouse and later retired from Powerex following their merger in 1999.
Joseph and Amelia, both originally from Mount Pleasant, moved to Oakmont, Pennsylvania to start a career with PPG, and as their family grew they returned to their roots in Mount Pleasant and eventually settled down in Greensburg. They were devoted and longtime members of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral for 43+ years.
Joseph is survived by his son Robert C. Forys, Greensburg, PA; daughters Kimberly Ann Conner (Jon) Allison Park, PA; and Mary Jo Reeser (Darin), Magnolia, TX; and his beloved grandchildren Bruce (Greg) Conner, Joseph Conner, Katherine Conner, Haley Novak, Colin Novak, Dylan Novak, Adrienne (Forys) Boggs, and his cherished great-grandchildren Ronan Boggs, Arlo Boggs, and Beckley Boggs. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amelia, and his siblings Bridget, Stella, Walter (Frosty), Frank, and Helen.
Joseph now reunites with his beloved Amelia, with whom he shared a life grounded in faith, love, and family. Their legacy lives on through the values they taught, the faith they practiced, and the countless lives they touched.
Family and friends are welcome to attend visitation on Tuesday, December 30th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Galone-Caruso Funeral Home Inc., 204 Eagle Street, Mount Pleasant. A celebration of Joseph's life will be held at Galone Caruso Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 31st, at 9:30am; followed by Mass at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church at 10:00am. Joseph will then be laid to rest at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 446 of Mt. Pleasant. A reception and celebration of life will follow at Bobby's favorite restaurant, Rizzo's Malabar at 11:45am.
