Obituary of Edward C. Henry III

Edward C. Henry, III

February 15, 1950 - December 12, 2025

Edward Charles Henry, III, age 75 of Beech Hills, Hempfield Township, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, following complications related to Parkinson’s disease.

Ed earned a bachelor’s degree in City Planning and Urban Development from the University of Virginia before completing his master’s. He spent his career shaping communities through urban planning, first in Jamestown, NY — where he met his future wife, Judy — and later with the City of Pittsburgh, investing his time and talents in the city he loved and called home for most of his life. Through his work, he also had opportunities to travel internationally, including to Japan and Italy.

In retirement, Ed enjoyed working at a friend’s Regent Square flower shop, visiting friends and family, attending Steelers games as a season ticket holder, walking his dog Brandy and making cannolis for Christmas dessert.

When it came to family, he was a loving uncle. Alongside Judy, he devoted energy to creating lasting childhood memories for his nieces and nephew, whether it was limo rides to The Nutcracker, sneaking up to the wooden escalators at Kaufmann’s, bottomless Shirley Temples at Max and Erma’s or epic Easter egg hunts. In their adulthood, he remained a constant presence for life’s milestone moments.

Ed brought a lighthearted spirit to every room and will be remembered for his wry observations, quick wit and gentle humor.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Judith Henry, his mother Maria DeBella Henry and father Edward C. Henry, II. He is survived by his sister Suzanne Henry Goldsmith of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and six brothers- and sisters-in-law, 11 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews: Patricia and Richard Bohinc of Cary, NC, (Jillian Bohinc and Michael Cruz of Cary, NC, and their children Kaylee, Dominick and Mack); Debra and Donald Huck of Sanford, NC, (Nathan and Amanda Stairs of Apex, NC, and children Adileigh, Grady and Graham; Jenna and Josh Simmons of Winston-Salem, NC, and their children Jax, Crosby and Baya; and Summer and Andrew Clark of Concord, NC, and their children Sydney, Zachary, Joanna, Elizabeth, Nicholas); Sandra and John Kadylak, Jr., of Latrobe, PA, (Justina Kadylak of East Petersburg, PA, and her children Finley, Lukas and Bennett; Jess and Trevor Leonard of Philadelphia, PA, and their children Lido and Tiber).
